Color is my first inspiration. Music and the surrounding countryside become sources for my designs. I also enjoy reinterpreting all sorts of scientific concepts as metaphors for visual ideas.

I use mostly hand-dyed cotton fabrics.  The dying process creates a visual texture to the fabric and makes the color choices nearly unlimited.  I employ a style of cutting, sewing, and re-cutting the fabric - repeated many times until I have the desired shape and design.  I finish my works with intricate hand-quilting.  If time or cost are a concern I also offer machine quilting.

Originally from California and Colorado, I attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City where I graduated with honors in 1987. At SVA I studied Photography, Sculpture, Bookmaking, and Performance Art. After graduating I moved to Maine where I milked cows and substituted in the public schools - employment for which my BFA made me eminently qualified. I relocated to the Chatham NY area in 1990 and started my own company soon after. Well-crafted, aesthetic, functional work became my goal.

I made my first quilt as a present for my mother's fiftieth birthday. I was influenced by traditional patterns but invented my own variations and techniques for dealing with scale, geometry, and materials. These materials have included old clothing, color copies and autumn leaves hand dipped in polyurethane!

I enthusiastically try to create work that is beautiful, well crafted, and may be touched and enjoyed everyday.
