Columbia Land Conservancy quilt in honor of the Quadricentennial of the Hudson River:
The “fish” were made by using rubber fish examples of indigenous species brayed with ink and then making a contact print. These prints were made on recycled plastic bags by children at several events throughout the summer in the Chatham area. I received help with the digitally printed map and animal images from local photographer Tom Buckner which were also colored by local children.
All of the background fabrics, batting and backing were recycled materials. Each fish was “stuffed” with additional plastic and appliqued to the quilt surface. (Wonky image but a very fun project.)
Dedicated and Delivered in September 2009 and now hangs in the Columbia Land Conservancy Board room.
